About This Event
It is anticipated that the El Niño climate phenomenon will develop in the coming months, potentially intensifying droughts, floods, heatwaves, and severe storm conditions across many regions of the world. Current projections indicate a very high probability that this event could become exceptionally strong, with the possibility of reaching unprecedented levels. Given Zambia’s vulnerability to climate-related shocks and its heavy dependence on rain-fed agriculture and hydropower, there is an urgent need to assess and implement measures aimed at mitigating the potential adverse impacts of these weather changes. What strategies and interventions can Zambia adopt to enhance its resilience and safeguard lives, livelihoods, food security, water resources, energy supply, and critical infrastructure against the anticipated effects of a severe El Niño event?
